In West Yorkshire for our sloping exposed garden design, we have prepared the soil and planted out two beds with a lovely mixture of perennials, which will give an abundance of colour all year round.
Movement has been introduced with grasses, here we have used Festuca glauca 'Elijah Blue' and Pennisetum alopecuroides "Hameln'.
Tall columns of Digitalis lanata 'Cafe Creme' and Kniphofia uvaria 'Grandiflora' rise above the other perennials giving vertical interest; the latter with a colour sequence not too dissimilar to that of traffic lights.
Euphorbia atropurpurea will contrast with Aubretia gracilis "Kitte Rose-Red' planted in the wall.
Bergenia Dragonfly 'Sakura' with semi-double pink flowers, evergreen purple black leaves and compact habit is very suited to its position aside the path.
Sedum 'Herbstfreude' and Sedum telephium 'Purple Emperor' give late colour with a red-purple flower from August until October.
