Decorative interest against the house wall
The client required a low maintenance solution for this area inside the fencing.
After levelling the area off, a weed membrane was installed and held in place with a series of pegs.
Grey cobbles were used to decorate the path, at 50-90mm they make quite a statement in this small space, and for ease of access a series of small rocks were placed between the pebbles.
A shrub rose David Austin 'Lady Hamilton' was planted near the entrance to the door to greet visitors with a lovely strong scent during the summer months.
To soften the house wall a good solitary specimen, Akebia quinata was planted which will fill the air with an exotic spicy fragrance, whilst the maroon chocolate flowers will provide seasonal interest from March to May. The south facing wall will also give this vigorous climber the best chance of producing edible sausage shaped fruits in autumn.
Jasminum officinale, a versatile climber was planted against the wooden clad extension, which will provide clusters of white scented flowers in summer.
Clematis montana, will cover the new extension quickly, providing a profusion of pink flowers in late spring.
