A Herbaceous planting style for a raised sleeper bed in Clive, Shropshire
A raised sleeper bed planted up to provide colour and scent for our client to enjoy throughout the year. The shrubs will over time mask the rear fence softening its appearance, and the edging plants will in the next season start to establish, dripping over the edge breaking up the sleepers dominance and provide interest.
There is a wealth of sensory appeal in this bed, with Russian sage, Honeysuckle, and Hydrangea providing wonderful bouquets throughout the year.
Galvanised wire has been installed on the shorter side of the fence, to help the Wisteria establish and show off its wonderful blossom, for our client to enjoy.
Garden Design Installation in Shrewsbury
Our client moved into this house and naturally she required a garden that was functional but at the same time reflected her tastes whilst being low maintenance.
We removed the existing features of the garden - slippery wooden decking, lawn, scant borders - which were a mismatch.
The raised sleeper beds which run down either side of the garden guide the eye, and are filled with a plethora of year round colour.
The riven sandstone paving allows the garden to be easily accessible, and usable when entertaining family and friends.
The artificial grass sits at the centre of the garden, softening the paving, whilst at the same time being low maintenance.
Raised sleeper beds designed and planted up in Shrewsbury
We have designed and planted up these 4 sleeper beds, to provide the client with sensory interest throughout the year.
We have maximised the interest in each bed, using our specialist knowledge, so that each provides a plethora of ranging colour.
With a backdrop of evergreen colour, this provides interest, whilst at the same time masking the dominance of the fence. We have also used variegated shrubs such as Euonymus, Hebe and Weigela,
Bistort, Ivy or Periwinkle has been planted on the corner of each bed, with a view that it will over time drape down the side of the sleeper bed.
The perennials such as Salvia, Phlox, Astrantia, Rudbeckia, Sanguisorba and Sedum Matrona, provide a punch of colour as they emerge from their rootstocks throughout the year.
